*** LANGUAGE ***
Deadly Webs deals with sinister people and the folks society employs to catch them. The author has chosen to have the participants speak in language he feels is consistent with such people. In other words, a serious number of profanities, including f-bombs, is spoken within the dialogue. If this were a film, it would probably be rated PG-13. There are no graphic sex or violence scenes, however.

Quick Overview

In the prequel to a series of crime fiction, the author provides a little more detail and character development than one would surmise, for a 91-page booklet. I nearly chose not to get this Deadly Webs for two reasons. One, the positive reviews all seemed to have been written by people who had not seemed to read the story, and one negative review declared the presence of a cliffhanger.

Still, I got this and the next in the series and was surprised at the caliber of writing and editing. Further, the referenced cliffhanger is not really what I call a cliffhanger. The basic story in Book 0 is closed within the 91 pages. There is a second story, or a story arc, actually, that does begin in Book 0 and carry over into Book 1, much as would an episode of Criminal Minds or NCIS. Here is a link to the next book in the series, in case you're interested: Deadly Webs: Trapped- A Riveting Mystery Book 1

{UPDATE} - Book Two of this series has been released and is free of any cliffhanger ending. Here is a link Deadly Webs: Unwoven- A Riveting Mystery Book 2

Therefore, without a great deal of rambling, I’m rating this story as four stars out of five. In part this is due to the excessive cussing and to the overly harsh treatment afforded by the investigators during a stage of investigation in which I feel was not realistic.

What I did enjoy was the level of detail that might have been difficult to sustain in a more conventional novel, and the twists and turns that kept me on my toes.

As I alluded to earlier, four stars out of five.

Comments regarding your opinion of this book or of my review, whether favorable or unfavorable, are always welcome. If you buy the book based on my review and become disappointed, especially, I do want to know that and I want to understand how I can improve as a book reviewer. Just please be polite.

Deadly Webs The Beginning Book 0 edition by James Hunt Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Wasn't sure I'd like the topic when I started reading. However, I do like this author. The book is written in such a way that you could picture this happening--I kind of ran it like a movie in my head. The result I couldn't read it fast enough, and I had to continue right into book I. The author's depiction of cops is much more realistic than a lot of books are--the main character has great intuition, is good at reading people, and he's also good at helping train his less experienced partner. This cop doesn't want people to know who he is. Likes to work anonymously. Likes to 'get his man', and he wants a successful 'hunt'. You'll find yourself rooting for his success from the very beginning of the book........
Has potential, both the story line and the characters. However, neither were delved into enough to really establish a connection with me, the reader. Most definitely more of a short story feeling than a novel. Also at least one glaring inconsistency with the amber sightings of the girl IN the trunk. Really? Did the caller's have X-ray vision? Other sketchy police procedures, and some very unbelievable luck, also left me shaking my head a few times. Still undecided if I will purchase the next book(s) in the series.
Detectives Grant and Mallocks (Mocks) are the kind of cops you'd want working on a case involving you. They ring true as people and partners, which isn't always easy to do. This is book 0 of a series, and if the rest of the series is anything like this it could go best-seller easily. But don't take my word for it, get this episode and see for yourself. James Hunt spins quite a web!
My son got me this book for Christmas. It was a definite five star. I read probably five books a week being disabled. This book captured my attention from the beginning and had no slow parts. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who enjoys detective novels and wants to be taken into another world for a while, a story good enough to let you put reality on hold for a while. This is the first review I've ever written so I guess that in itself says a lot. I do not know this author and this is the first book I've read by this author but if these are others I will definitely be looking for them!
I really enjoyed the e-book Deadly Webs The Beginning Book 0, it was full of suspense. The author handled a difficult subject with grace. The two principal detectives have deep psychological issues. I sometimes wondered whether the male detective had a death wish. The reason why I rated this book 5 stars is that at first I thought the book was going down one path in relationship to the child abduction but then the author came up with a surprise. I've already downloaded the next book in the series.
Who kidnapped a twelve year old girl? This was a very suspenseful story. It was very interested how the author kept us in suspense till almost to the end.time was very crucial . It has a lot of action.
Cliffhanger. Bad enough when there are cliffhangers and you have to keep reading successive books to find out what happens. MUCH Worse when you get to the end of a two book set only to find a HUGE non-ending.

I would have waited to read everything in it's entirety had the author had the courtesy of giving a heads up. Now I will likely never read the rest as by the time they are written I will have long moved on.

Poor form on the author's part.
